ARTIST STATEMENT
I do art simply because it makes me happy. It quietens the mind in what is a busy and hectic world. A figurative artist, I adore working in oils and this medium forms the cornerstone of my work.
I love the immortality of a painting and I perceive my art as a snapshot in time. My subjects are not caught out by the lens but merely gazed upon distractedly by the passerby. I use colour to emulate a thought, a feeling or an emotion from the fleeting pause and by conveying an intimate part of someone’s existence, I hope to create a moment of conscious reflection. In turn, allowing a hint of myself to be woven into the work, I mingle in this contemplation and my creative expression is freed.
“You cannot fail as an artist, it is a success just to be one”
Charles Horton Cooley
